Method
As with water, diffuse attention was directed toward the matter (arable soil, stone, sand, humus), with no transformative intention, in simple availability to what might reveal itself. Extended periods, over several weeks.
Observations
The qualities that emerged are distinct from those of water: stability, patience, long memory, bearing capacity. Where water invites adaptability, earth invites rootedness. Where water flows, earth sustains.
Methodological implications
This observation consolidated an important intuition: these natural supports are not archaic or poetic symbols; they serve as anchors for attention to bring forth distinct qualities of presence. This distinction has guided the Laboratory’s work in this domain ever since.
